Dr. Yau has a great bedside manner!

Tripped over the family dog and Injured my left rotator cuff, etc. while evacuating from the Thomas Fire.  Dr. Yau has a great bedside manner, is very compassionate and patiently worked with me during my long and extensive recovery.

He is one of the rare Doctors who has skill AND bedside manner

Dr. Yau is considered a Saint in our household after all he has done for our little girl. She was in a major limb threatening crush accident and luckily, Dr. Yau was on call that day at Cottage Hospital. He is one of the rare Doctors who has skill AND bedside manner. I hope he has the most success and blessings in life.

He is a great surgeon in my opinion

I tore my conjoint hamstring muscle completely from the hip and needed surgery to re-attach it. I received the MRI results late on a Friday afternoon. My primary doctor was out of town and I was unable to get a recommendation from the physician I did see. This is a relatively rare injury so finding a surgeon that has performed this procedure before was quite difficult. I spent the weekend researching doctors and I was very lucky to see a review from a previous patient, Monika who had the same surgery the year before. After calling several people for referrals I received recommendations from two Orthopedic physicians and an Anesthesiologist. They all agreed the doctor to see was Dr. Yau in Santa Barbara, California.
I called Dr. Yau's office and got an appointment for the same day! He scheduled surgery for the following week. It has now been five months since the operation and I've been hiking, and exercising as intensively as I did before my accident.
I was 59 when I had the surgery and I'm very glad that I did! Dr. Yau is honest, humble and kind. He is a great surgeon in my opinion. I highly recommend him!

Definitely got the feeling he wants to help me get better and cares

Very nice, and thorough. My general doctor put my cortisone shot in wrong and it made my shoulder worse. I also had previously seen a physical therapist that made my shoulder worse, so this whole process was discouraging. Doctor Yau diagnosed me with frozen arm, which was new information to me. He used an ultrasound device to make sure the shot went into the right area. I felt immediate relief and more range of motion. He referred me to a different physical therapist that he highly recommended. Unfortunately, the physical therapist was booked for about two months. Dr. Yau went ahead and called the physical therapist personally and got him to make an appoint with me three days later. Definitely got the feeling he wants to help me get better and cares.

He and his entire staff were very professional

I would like to thank Dr. Yau and his staff for the outstanding job they did in controlling my MRSA Infection I had prior to seeing him. He and his entire staff were very professional and took a considerable amount of care and attention to ensure the infection was cured. I would highly recommend Dr. Yau to anyone seeking a qualified Orthopedic Surgeon.
Once again I would like to thank you for your Care.

Dr Yau and his staff are warm, friendly and very compassionate

My husband and I are both shoulder patients of Dr. Yau and are both so thankful for the incredible care and treatment that we received. We have a young family and with both of us injured at the same time it was a difficult and trying few months. But Dr Yau and his staff are warm, friendly and very compassionate. He's a thorough physician and determined to keep you out of surgery if he can. I appreciated that he suggested a few alternative treatments to try before leading me into the operating room. Ultimately I did require surgery but he was as focussed on my rehabilitation as I was! He is a true asset to our medical community. Thank you Dr. Yau for putting us both back together!

Great Surgeon

Dr. Yau performed hamstring surgery in June of 2016, where he re-attached my muscles, which had all been completely torn off - a highly unusual injury.
Dr. Yau was the only Doctor recommend in Santa Barbara who was able to do this surgery; in previous years one was required to go to LA, or to other cities, to have this surgery.
I am very glad I had Dr. Yau as my surgeon!!
I recovered very fast after the operation, and healed extremely well - which I contribute to Dr. Yau's surgery techniques, and my being diligent about following the healing protocol. I don't even feel my injury, or the surgery site any longer, and was pretty much completely back to my previous activities after 4 months. Even though I was 69 when I had this surgery, I am very active, and am so glad that I am still able to do everything I want to do, and did not listen to some who said I was too old to have this surgery.
I did extensive research into the surgery, talked with different Doctors and Patients, and decided Dr. Yau was the Doctor I wanted as my surgeon. I am very glad I had this surgery, and do not regret my decision!
If someone wants to talk to me about this particular hamstring injury (complete hamstring avulsion) and surgery, please ask Dr. Yau for my phone number, I will gladly share my experience.

feel like I am part of his family when I see him

Dr Yau, Jervis is such an amazing doctor and surgeon. I have been seeing him since February 2016 and he has been nothing but helpful!! He always has a smile on his face which eases my mind when I am in there and he is extremely knowledgable even though my shoulder problem is really rare. Every time I am in the office I don't have to wait, they get me in right away and Dr Yau comes in and spends at least 10-15 min with me explaining what is going on and examining my shoulder. Unfortunately my shoulder has just had a lot of unexpected issues but Dr Yau has been studying my shoulder and knows it very well now so hopefully I am on the mend!! I've been through two surgeries with him and he gives me the best medical advice before doing anything and is very descriptive when explaining what he did after operating. The scars are extremely small on my shoulder because his stitch work was excellent. He is friendly, easy to talk to, he listens to everything I have to say, he always answers my questions in a way that I can understand and I can tell that he really wants to help me heal. I have even called Dr Yau at home when I thought something was wrong after surgery and he picked up and was really helpful and even had his assistant follow up with me after the weekend was over. I feel like I am part of his family when I see him. The office is clean and everyone is always friendly and professional. Dr Yau's medical assistant is really helpful as well...She always returns my phone calls on the same day and does her best to take care of any concerns I have that same day. I love this clinic and I would definitely recommend Dr Yau!!!

He is very calm and great with kids

Dr. Yau was on call for the ER when my 7 year old broke her arm. Boy did we get lucky. I can't say enough good things about him. 1) He is very calm and great with kids. My daughter tends to be an anxious one so his calm demeanor made resetting her arm in the ER and surgery the next day a lot less traumatic than it could have been. He even allowed me to come into the operating room so I could stay with my daughter while she fell asleep. 2) He's extremely talented and although he's obviously a rockstar (Google him) in the orthopedic world you would never know it because he's as down to earth and kind as can be. He even called the next day after surgery (which was a Saturday) to see how she was doing. He made me feel like my daughter was his only patient. 3) His office is extremely well-run. They are quick, sharp and very easy to work with. The gentleman who does the X-rays is very nice also. We're very lucky to have Dr. Yau and his team in our community. He's an absolute gem.
